Dear Parent(s),
Welcome: We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our pupils, staff and parents to our school community. A special welcome to our Junior Infant pupils who have made a great start to their primary school days.
Attendance: Our annual returns for 2023/24 have been submitted to Tusla. Almost 25% of our pupils were absent for more than 20 days. We plan to implement some school wide initiatives to improve attendance again this year.
Beginning of Year Mass: There will be a beginning of year mass on Thursday 26th September at 10am. We invite parents, grandparents and friends to join us in celebrating our school mass as we begin our school year.
Primary School’s Cross Country: The Primary School Cross Country took place on Wednesday 11th September in the Finn Valley Centre. A total of 22 children attended with fantastic individual and team performances. A special well done to Ailbhe who was the overall winner of the girls U9 race leading the team to silver medals with Clodagh and Eva close behind. Our U11 boys team of Harry, Caiden, Luke, Aidan, Edward and Conor also won silver team medals. Comhghairdeas!
School Photos: The photographer will visit our school on Monday 23rd September. Please return permission slips if you wish your child to have their photograph taken.
Healthy Eating: Our hot lunches are up and running. Please allow 2 working days for any order changes. We remind parents of our healthy eating policy in school. We encourage all children to eat healthily. One small treat is permitted on a Friday.
School Uniform: Our uniform consists of bottle green jumper/cardigan with school crest, yellow polo shirt and dark grey trousers/tracksuit bottoms/skirt/pinafore. Plain grey/black shorts may be worn in warmer weather.
Student Council: Our student council will be formed next month; elections will be held in each classroom from 1st – 6th class.
Farewell Evening: A farewell evening for former principal Frank McGlynn will be held in the parish hall this Thursday 19th September at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
Swimming: Children in 3rd-6th Class are taking part in swimming lessons every Monday for 6 weeks. Thank you to our Parents Association for funding this.
Ukulele Lessons: We will begin ukulele lessons on 26th September, Anderinna will carry out 24 lessons in the senior classrooms. Please see Aladdin for information on ukulele rental/purchase.
*Collection & Drop Off: The school opens at 9:10am each morning and children proceed immediately to their class. We encourage children to remain in their class groups while on yard in the morning. Bus children depart school at 2:50pm, car collection at 3:00pm and those walking/cycling leave the school when traffic has dispersed. We encourage parents to use the one – way system round the parish hall when collecting or dropping off.
Le Meas,
Ms. N. Scanlan
