First Holy Communion

Congratulations to our Second Class pupils on receiving their First Holy Communion.
The children represented our school with great pride and reverence on this very special day.
Thank you to the staff, parents, and parish for all their support and preparation.
We are very proud of all the boys and girls on this important milestone in their faith journey.

Finn Valley Athletics Finals

A big well done to our 18 pupils who represented our school at the Finn Valley Athletics Finals on Wednesday 13th May. We came home with a total of 8 medals, a fantastic achievement. Well done to all who participated!

Finn Valley Athletics

Well done to our 35 pupils who took part in the Finn Valley Athletics Schools Competition on Wednesday 6th May. They took part in a variety of running, throwing and jumping events. A total of 18 pupils have qualified for the finals on the 13th May. Good luck to everyone!

Dear Parent(s),     

Admissions for 2026/27: Admissions for 26/27 are now closed. An information morning for all new Junior Infant entrants and their parents will take place on Thursday 11th June 10.00-11.00. Children will visit their classroom and meet with some staff.

Peaceplus Activities: The school is participating in the Aspire Peaceplus Programme with Glenmaquin N.S. and Convoy Joint N.S. As part of this, all classes took part in shared sessions in schools during the week of 27th April-1st May with a focus on wellbeing. This formed part of Wellbeing Week. School tours will take place in June. Infants-2nd will visit Castle Adventure Farm on Tuesday 9th June, 3rd-4th will visit Letterkenny Activity Centre on Monday 8th June and 5th and 6th class will visit Letterkenny Activity Centre on Wednesday 10th June. The cost of the tours will be covered by the Peaceplus Programme.

Parents Association: Our school 5k, with a 2k walking option, takes place on Friday 22nd May at 7.30pm. Sponsorship cards and entry forms will be sent home. Each child who takes part will receive a homework pass. The event will be chip timed with refreshments and prize giving in the hall afterwards. Thanks also to our Parents Association for providing Easter eggs for our egg hunt at Easter.

Sacraments: Well done to all 2nd Class pupils who made their First Confession on Tuesday 21st April. We thank Fr. Kelly for a lovely service. First Holy Communion will take place on Saturday 16th May at 11am, in St. Patrick’s Church, Drumkeen. There will be a school choir for the mass with pupils from 3rd-6th Class. Tea and refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards and as is tradition, parents of First Class pupils are asked to help out on the day. 

Children’s Mass: Our next children’s mass, with pupils from 2nd-6th, will take place on Tuesday 12th May at 10am in St. Patrick’s Church, Drumkeen. All are welcome to attend.

Athletics: Pupils have been enjoying athletics with Ann Slevin from Finn Valley AC over the past few weeks. Our trials for the upcoming Finn Valley athletics competition took place last week. Permission slips have been sent home with all pupils who have qualified for the competition which takes place on 6th May in the Finn Valley Centre.

Cumann na mBunscoil: 5th and 6th Class boys and girls took part in Round 1 of the Cumann na mBunscoil blitz in St. Mary’s GAA grounds, Convoy. Both teams played fantastically with the boys’ team progressing to the next round to be played on Friday 8th May.

Sportshall Athletics: Our 3rd and 4th class girls took part in the Sportshall Athletics county final in the Aura, Letterkenny on Thursday 23rd April. They did our school proud finishing in the top 5!

BLAST: Pupils in Junior Infants and 2nd/3rd class are taking part in the BLAST Arts and Creativity in Eduaction programme for 5 weeks, through the Donegal Education Centre. The theme is music.

Standardised Testing Term 3: Please note, all pupils from 1st – 6th Class will carry out their standardised testing from the 12th – 22nd May 2026.

School Uniform: Full school uniform should be worn at all times unless otherwise specified. Please ensure your child’s jumper is clearly labelled with their name. During warmer weather, children may wear plain, knee length grey/black shorts (no stripes/logos). Thank you for your cooperation with this. We have a large number of jumpers in out lost property box. Please check in office if your child is missing a jumper.

Bank Holiday: As per school calendar, the school will close on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th May for the bank holiday.

School Opening Times: The school building opens at 9:10am to receive our pupils, our official start time of the school day is 9:20am. We ask that all pupils are in school by 9:20am for morning activities.

Cumann na mBunscoil

Our senior boys and girls teams recently took part in Round 1 of the Cumann na mBunscoil blitz on Wednesday 15th April at St. Mary’s GAA Grounds, Convoy, where they competed against St. Baithín’s of St. Johnston and Drumoghill NS.

Both teams represented the school with great pride and determination. The girls played exceptionally well and can be very proud of their efforts on the day.

The boys enjoyed great success, winning both of their matches to secure their place in the next round, where they will face St. Eunan’s, Laghey.

Well done to all involved and best of luck to the boys in the next stage!

RSE: All classes will complete the RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education) Programme during the week of 20th of April. Further information on these lessons will be sent out after the Easter break.

5 a Side: Well done to all the boys and girls who took part in the Primary 5s soccer blitz at Letterkenny Community Centre on Wednesday 25th March. Both teams performed tremendously with both finishing third overall on the day. Well done!

Green Flag: The Green Team continue to work on the water theme. They had a visit from the Green Schools Coordinator in February assessing their work for the water flag. The coordinator was very impressed with all their efforts. The school took part in a Daily Swaps Challenge, led by the Green Team this week. The whole school played a huge part in this, leaving a positive and lasting impact on water conservation awareness, both at school and at home. Well done everyone!

Student Council: The student council did a wonderful job during Seachtain na Gaeilge promoting the use of the Irish language. Everyone made a great effort to speak Gaeilge that week. The student council will continue to promote the Irish language encouraging everyone to speak a little daily using the phrases they have. Maith sibh!

Active Team: An active walkway has been set up around the school and is getting great use for movement breaks and orienteering lessons.

Gaelic Blitz: Pupils from 3rd and 4th class attended a fun, Gaelic blitz in St. Mary’s GAA grounds on Thursday 26th March. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day out and were commended on their excellent behaviour and participation! Gaelic continues for pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th class on Fridays.

Athletics: Pupils have begun a 6 week block of athletics with Ann Slevin from Finn Valley AC. This takes place every Thursday and is great preparation for the upcoming Primary School’s Track and Field Competition to be held on Wednesday 6th May.

Seachtain na Gaeilge: We celebrated ‘Lá Glas’ on Thursday 12th March. Pupils dressed in green and each class performed a song/poem as Gaeilge! We were also treated to some Irish dancing by senior pupils. We finished with a whole school performance of ‘An Dreoilín’. Prizes were also presented to ‘Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine’ from each class.

St. Mary’s GAA Art Competition: Well done to Cathal Gilroy in Junior Infants and Tommy Doogan in 1st Class who were the winners of the Seachtain na Gaeilge art competition run by St. Mary’s GAA, Convoy. Comhghairdeas!

Parents Association: Thank you to our Parent’s Association for providing the Easter eggs for our egg hunt on Friday. Reminder that our school 5k takes place on Friday 22nd May at 7.30pm.

Book Fair: The Scholastic book fair was a great success. There was a total of €1772 spent by the pupils and our school has been rewarded with €1,063 to spend on books for our classroom libraries. Thank you for supporting this.

Sacraments: Well done to all candidates who made their Confirmation on Sunday 1st March. We thank Fr. Kelly for all his efforts and for a lovely service. First Confession will take place on Tuesday 21st April at 7pm and First Holy Communion will take place onSaturday 16th May at 11am, both in St. Patrick’s Church, Drumkeen. Easter Egg Hunt
